Early photo drawing Bronze sand cast After Cameron photo Stone 2003 Stone 2006 Model for 2009 stone Stone 2003 Wood chicken 1994

My earlier years as an artist were devoted to pencil drawings, mostly made by copying from photographs. Subsequently, I moved on the life drawing which was a helpful prelude to my work in sculpture. I also initally carved wooden animal figures that might be termed "zoomorphs", often with a humorous twist and in a folk-art stye. During the last 10 years, I have worked in ceramics, using clay to make macquettes for stone carvings. My process of stone carving is classical in that I begin with a drawing then develop it into small wax forms and finalize it with progressively larger ceramic models. The final clay models may be up to two-feet high; close to the actual size of the stone. Several years ago I had brief artist-in-residence stay at the Mendocino Art Center and was able to explore some work with cold casting methods (which I found difficult) and with bronze lost wax casting (much more enjoyable for me). The sculpture link has pictures of some of my stone pieces and a slide show of my sculptural work process.
